#colaexperience The Gourmet Shop
One of my favorites places in Columbia is found in our "Five Points" area, The Gourmet Shop. You can find us here most weekends, whether it's grabbing brunch or shopping through their gourmet food selection. This is the perfect place to bring friends, or to pick up delicious items for your house guest.
Their cafe serves a delicious array of sandwich and salad options, and you can design your own cheese and charcuterie board to have as an appetizer. They always have the options available for take home purchase afterwards in the shop side.
I got the bacon and Brie on the French baguette with the soup of the day, Tomato Bisque. This sandwich was delicious, and I dipped it in the homemade jelly they brought out. The sandwich originally comes on a croissant, I just was feeling a toasted baguette.
Phil chose "build your own sandwich", selecting roasted turkey breast, Havarti cheese, Dijon mustard, red onion and lettuce grilled on sourdough bread. He also chose the Tomato Bisque soup for the side. I was able to sneak in a bite, and boy was it appetizing. And if you can't tell, we are big fans of the soup. You can choose this as your side, or can select from the fruit platter, pasta salad options, Deviled eggs (another one of my favorites), or chips.
While they always have a tasty lunch selection, their brunch is amazing as well. We switch it up from the "Breakfast Bowl" to the "Belgium Waffles" to the "Bacon Egg and Cheese Croissant" each time that we go. You can't go wrong pairing it with one of their cappuccinos.
After you are done eating, walk the few feet into their store and enjoy! We walk through every time, finding delicious gourmet soups, jams, sauces, snacks, and wine selections. You can choose to take home some of their salad options or homemade bread as well.
You can build the perfect cheese and charcuterie board (as discussed here) from their wide selection. This is the perfect time to find options for entertaining or if you want to taste test new discoveries. You can also pick up the baguette or the crackers you may need for your board.
After you have picked our your dinner options (or lunch), you can start to shop for dessert. They have fun candies you can set out, or delectable cakes and bars. I always pick up the pack of 6 macaroons to share on the way home. Maybe one day they will make it onto a plate haha.
You can't leave without the wine, there is whole room of world wide wine options. Whether you need red, white, or sparkling, you can start to build your collection. If you are hosting a large party, they have cases of wine at very reasonable prices.
This lovely shop has been around since 1979, and you can definitely see why. Everyone who works there is always so helpful and nice, we love the atmosphere. Take time to check out this spot in Five Points on a Saturday morning, it is the perfect brunch location where you can also knock out some gourmet shopping as well!
